it was summer. and like every summer my family got exchange students from spain and france. little did i know that this summer would be a little different. i was so excited to day we got to pick up our exchange students but the girl we ended up hosting was a total bitch. all i could think about was this month and a half she is gonna be here is gonna be hell. but i knew i had to make the best of it, if this summer was gonna be anywhere near fun. so i decided to go to the welcoming party they had for the students. i was hanging out with the leaders that watched over the students during their stay here. and of course i was checking out all the guys (: and there was definitely some cute ones. and of course one caught my eye. typical hottie. brown hair, tan, sexy body, and did i mention he was french? i cant say it was love at first sight, but he made my heart melt right there and then. and i promised myself i’d go to all the activities i could so i could get to know all the students, including him.
you see, i had just gone through a bad break up. my heart had been aching for a guy i had gone out with for two years. but when a guy doesnt treat you well sometimes you just have to get out of the relationship. being hit and cussed at isnt something any girl should go through. and after a year i couldnt do it anymore. i just wanted to be happy.
i learned this guys name was marc. and boy, was he gorgeous. i got to talk to him when the group of students went to seattle. a short conversation but it was nice. i talked to him when we went to kirkland the next week too. he helped me a lot that day. because i saw my ex boyfriend of two years. and i never wanted to see him again and i was a complete mess. my exchange students name was maria (the bitch) and it was her birthday that day so my family planned on taking all 45 or so students out midnight bowling. i took my friend stephanie. we were on a lane with her, my sister, and i. about twenty minutes into bowling, marc and his host family showed upp along with their 2nd exchange student jorge, who was from spain. they asked if they could be in my lane and i couldnt resist. i spent that whole night talking and flirting with marc. and before i knew it those 3 hours we over, and everyone was going home. as european tradition he kissed me goodnight on both cheeks and promised to email me. as we were walking out the door and i hugged him one last time and he kissed me goodnight. it was bold and daring. and thats when we fell for eachother. man, it was magic.
when i got home i couldnt stop thinking about that kiss. it was magical. it sounds cliche but it truly was like nothing i had experienced.
we spent those next 5 weeks together. almost everyday. getting to know each other. every thing about each other. simply falling for each other. one night we went out for a movie at a local park. we just were laying down on our blanket with a friend of mine and her boyfriend, my friend turned to me and
“ asked are you guys going out yet?”
i replied with “i dont know marc, are we?”
he replied, “baby, there isnt anyone else i would rather be with, besides you. you are most definitely my girlfriend”
we spent that whole night talking about our future, what was gonna happen when he had to leave, and everything inbetween. but at the moment i could care less because i was in love. and so was he.
two days later, we went to go see a movie. i had just gotten new vans, that we a crossword puzzle so people could write there names in them and stuff. marc wanted to write in them so we went to the store before the movie and bought some pens so he could write in them. he told me to close my eyes while he wrote and he’d tell me when to open them. when he was done, i looked. it simply said…
“marc loves lauren”
then he looked straight up into my eyes and said “i love you baby” and of course i said “i love you too”. we went to the movie and ended our night with a kiss and an “i love you” goodnight.
before i knew it, he had only one week left in the US. and man, all i could think of is what i was gonna do when he was gone. but i just decided not to think about it.
the day came when he had to leave. and i was heartbroken. i got up at 7:00 in the morning to go say goodbye. i ran up to him and hugged him. kissed him. knowing it was our last twenty minutes together before i was gonna lose the guy i loved. we took our final pictures and said our final goodbyes. while both crying our eyes out. when he walked on that bus, we couldnt help but run back into eachothers arms for one last time. he kissed me on the forehead and said “ill see you again my little american girl with fruity hair, i will you see you again” and he left.
we email every day still. and even though we both decided to date other people while we were apart, our love for eachother will never go away. that summer love is something i will never forget. it only happened 10 months ago and i can remember it like it was yesterday. i still have every single email we wrote to eachother. and boy, they make my heart jump everytime i read them.
because it only took me three weeks, three weeks to fall for you.
